The Masquerade
Author: Brenda Joyce
Publisher: Harlequin
Genre Historical Romance.
This story is about a shy girl named Elizabeth Anne Fitsgerald, also known as Lizzie, in the book. She attends her first masquerade ball, when she discovers that Lord Tyrell De Warenne is to attend as well. A man, who she worshiped the very ground he walked on, for years, since they were children. So, to say she was stunned when he had asked for her hand to dance is an understatement. She couldn’t believe it! One that he had asked and two that she was actually dancing with the man of her dreams! The only doubt she had was, did he know as to whom he was dancing with? After all it is a masquerade ball!
All doubt went out the window, for when the dance was over, Tyrell invited her out to a private midnight rendezvous in the gardens. With giddiness throughout the night, about meeting with him alone, an unfortunate accident happened to a dress causing her to not only change but go home. She regretted the whole ordeal, thinking that this was the only chance that she had in to talking with him alone. As fates would have it, that that night would change her life forever.
Now, two years have passed since Tyrell had shocked Lizzie into dancing, it was her turn to shock him as she showed up at his doorstep. This time she wasn’t alone. She had a child with her and claimed, to him, that the child was his!
With the years of not seeing her at any other events, he remembered her but to claim something of his was the impossible! What game was Lizzie playing at and more importantly, why? He recalled how sweet and shy she was as a girl. Before him now was a woman with vast amount of courage to back her accusation up!
Doesn’t matter, Tyrell plays along with her, for he intends to win at whatever game she has planned up. Little did he know that she held all the cards and knew all the rules.
This book was referred to me, from a friend, then asked for the book back when I was done. Now I know why. So, I ended up buying a copy for myself for my collection to keep. I was skeptical because, at the time, I never read historical romance novels. This book became another page turner to me, and I couldn’t put it down!
My imagination went wild on this book. Each scenario had me thinking that the story was going to be different due to the “rules” of the game. Don’t take my word on it. Get it yourself and tell me what you think! If I could give this star out of five, it would be no doubt a 10!
