Legacy

Author: Nora Roberts

Genres: Romance novel, Thriller, Domestic Fiction, Romantic Fiction

Published May 25, 2021

This book first started out as a single ambitious mother trying to move on with her life from a one-night mistake. Years later her daughter (Adrian) grew of age and always wanted to meet her father. Little did she know that her own father tried to kill her. Lucky for her, her mother, Lina, while in the struggle amongst the commotion, was able to stop him. When I mean stop him, I mean it was to the point where Adrian had to go and live with her grandparents in Maryland for long summers.

Shuffling between the two places and hardly knowing her mother due to her success in the fitness business. Andrian, decades later, started to create her own line of workout videos and yoga tutorials with a group of friends, without crossing paths with her mother’s work. To which there was an agreement her mother wouldn’t interfere with Adrians’s effort in the world either.

yoga, asana, pose

Although on a yearly basis, Adrian received death threats, each vicious rhymes unsettling as the last keep arriving with different post markings, making it hard to track. What was just words were now being followed by action and those actions followed her back to her beloved Maryland. Now action must be taken so she can keep what she worked so hard to achieve, which could be the very lives she’s grown to love.

communication, letters, envelope

I’d have to say is that I was skeptical in reading Nora Roberts books. Why, I have no idea. I was scrolling through my library, and I came across this book for research for one of my own books. I also wanted to broaden my horizon on different characters and prospectives and I have to say, Nora Roberts definitely has blown my mind!

The way her words flow from character to character is remarkable. Even the description of the places, the back stories of each character’s leave me in awe of her talent. Needless to say, I am going to continue to read her books and see what other fascinating stories that she has written. So, stay tuned and keep reading.

The Duke and I

Author: Julia Quinn

Published by Avon

Now I am sure we or most of us have seen the new Netflix series Bridgerton. Well, when I found out that it was originally a book, well I instantly had to jump on that band wagon.

Anyone and everyone know that when one reads a book that the movie or tv series will not follow the script from the book. It just simply isn’t done. Sometimes it’s downright disappointing. Now with this series, starting out, oh no far from disappointing. I loved how they did it differently. The different races for the historic tale of the story. Although, most historic, romances you don’t come across mix races and they weren’t that common or even allowed. Thats why I loved how they did it in the tv series. For right now we will talk about book one and go from there.

The Duke and I starts off with the Eldest first daughter, Daphne. She is one of eight of the Bridgerton family. Now in the book she is portrayed to be a kind person but is a sharp-witted kind of woman. To which no one really looks her way. In the show, she is the diamond in the ton. But with a mother with hopes of a marriage she’s got to change that.

Simon on the other hand, The Duke of Hastings and only child, has just returned to England and is not looking forward to either marriage or the society. If anything, he tries his best to disappoints his father’s legacy as much as he can due to his painful past as a child. Although in town seeing his best friend and his sister, who offers another option, how can he refuse? He can divert from the mothers and daughters, who try to take him from the marriage mart and Daphne can learn of her different prospects while keeping her reputation. Win, win right?

There is only one rule, don’t fall in love and that would be easy…… With each other….. at least that is the plan.

Like I said, this book was not disappointing, and neither was the series. if you haven’t seen or read either one, I would recommend both because they are both amazing!!

Book-A court of Thorns and Roses

thorns, winter, roses

By Sarah J. Maas

Genre: Romance, Fantasy

Published by Bloomsbury Publishing

I would have to say that this was a slow book for me to get through. It had taken me months to get through the first part of its pages. I jumped on this Acotar band wagon because I was led to believe that the first book was like an off version to Beauty and the Beast. Which everyone who knows me, knows, I love the classical tale.

True to its word, in its own way, it sort of was like the classical tale, but it was so slow for me to even connect to the main character, Feyre, or even try to find a connection.

It starts out as a young huntress who goes out and tries to save her family from starvation. She comes across this gigantic wolf, what she thought was her family’s salvation was actually their doom. That night thinking of their possible happiness, in burst a terrifying creature demanding retribution for the killing of his friend’s death and for his pelt that was being sold.

So, he ends up taking Feyre to his lands where she learns of not only of his past but the past of her people as well. Between the people and the fairies. The longer that she is there the more she grows to have feelings for Tamlin, the “beast”, the High Lord that had taken her.

With every story there is always a bad, and with this one Feyre learns of Amarantha who is the High Queen of Prythian. Whom has imprisoned a lot of fae folks, including Rhysand. Which we will get to his beautiful soul later in a different blog post.

Moving on, So When Tamlin is “taken,” Feyre, then follows to rescue him but was found out by Amarantha. In order to save him, Feyre has to do three different tasks that were supposed to be impossible for most humans to do. But Amarantha knew Feyre’s weaknesses to which she uses then to her disadvantages.

You’ll have to read the book to figure out what those weaknesses were and who gave up those secretes.

All in all, this was a slow book for me until I got to the middle of the book then I was able to speed right through it.

Let me know down below as to what you think of the first book.

One of the missing children is officers Wilsons Nephew. Feeling guilty and refusing her mother’s wishes again she helps Officer Wilson find these children.

The rest you’re just going to have to get the book and read for yourself. I have read this book 100 times to the point I wore out the spine of the book. Pages were falling out and I held it to together with tape. So, it just shows as to how much I love this book. I even talk about it with my coworkers, to the point where I think I annoyed them, but they ended up buying me a new book. Till this day I still reread it. I even kept my old book as a momentum.

This book was a nonstop suspense for me. A real page turner and I ‘d be happy to tell everyone and anyone about it.

If you end up reading it, let me know what you think. Even better, if you know any other books like this one let me know I would love to read more like this book. Happy reading!!!

The Masquerade

Author: Brenda Joyce

Publisher: Harlequin

Genre Historical Romance.

This story is about a shy girl named Elizabeth Anne Fitsgerald, also known as Lizzie, in the book. She attends her first masquerade ball, when she discovers that Lord Tyrell De Warenne is to attend as well. A man, who she worshiped the very ground he walked on, for years, since they were children. So, to say she was stunned when he had asked for her hand to dance is an understatement. She couldn’t believe it! One that he had asked and two that she was actually dancing with the man of her dreams! The only doubt she had was, did he know as to whom he was dancing with? After all it is a masquerade ball!

All doubt went out the window, for when the dance was over, Tyrell invited her out to a private midnight rendezvous in the gardens. With giddiness throughout the night, about meeting with him alone, an unfortunate accident happened to a dress causing her to not only change but go home. She regretted the whole ordeal, thinking that this was the only chance that she had in to talking with him alone. As fates would have it, that that night would change her life forever.

Now, two years have passed since Tyrell had shocked Lizzie into dancing, it was her turn to shock him as she showed up at his doorstep. This time she wasn’t alone. She had a child with her and claimed, to him, that the child was his!

With the years of not seeing her at any other events, he remembered her but to claim something of his was the impossible! What game was Lizzie playing at and more importantly, why? He recalled how sweet and shy she was as a girl. Before him now was a woman with vast amount of courage to back her accusation up!

Doesn’t matter, Tyrell plays along with her, for he intends to win at whatever game she has planned up. Little did he know that she held all the cards and knew all the rules.

This book was referred to me, from a friend, then asked for the book back when I was done. Now I know why. So, I ended up buying a copy for myself for my collection to keep. I was skeptical because, at the time, I never read historical romance novels. This book became another page turner to me, and I couldn’t put it down!

My imagination went wild on this book. Each scenario had me thinking that the story was going to be different due to the “rules” of the game. Don’t take my word on it. Get it yourself and tell me what you think! If I could give this star out of five, it would be no doubt a 10!

Book Day- Dream Shadow

Author- Mary Wine

Genre- Fiction, Romance novel, Erotic literature, Suspense

I’d have to be honest here, I couldn’t finish this book. I normally would try and read a hundred pages before I call it quits, on page 90, I was done. This book, however, didn’t hold my attention and I struggled to keep reading.

I love paranormal suspense books. That was what drew me to it. To be honest I couldn’t fully understand Grace, the heroine. I get that she’s military and serious, and I’m used to it, due to my own military family. There just wasn’t anything that I could connect with her in order to enjoy this book.

For Brice… Well, I was hoping somebody would have shot him in the book. He was so arrogant and pushy. As Grace, the way she was Portrayed in the story, she just put up with him and allowed it to go on for so long.

Now Grace is a psychic tracker for the Army. She was hired to find the missing child. Brice, who is a local sheriff, is also determined to find the missing children. But he’s distracted by his attractions or lack thereof, towards her.

While he tries to break down her walls, he also tries to find the kids, but he can’t seem to do two things at once. Honestly, He was thinking between his legs and not with his actual head! With Grace and her walls, I feel that there were zero chemistry between the two but that’s just me.

I would maybe give this book a one star if I was rating it.

What are your thoughts on this book? Let me know down below. Maybe there was something that I missed that you may be caught. Although I highly doubt that I will read the rest of the book or the rest of the series.

House Surrounded by Green Grass Below Clouds and Sky

Author- Jude Deveraux

Title- The Summer House book 1

Publisher- Gallery Books

Now I already love Jude Deveraux and her books. This particular book had me hooked after page 3! This book is one of three and as soon as this one came out, I couldn’t wait for the others to come out.

It’s about three best friends who share a birthday and they are about to turn forty. They began their friendship when they were twenty-one in a local DMV, where they discovered that they had the same birthday. Years later they wanted to celebrate their shared birthday away from their daily lives. So, they decided to meet a summerhouse in Maine, for a weekend getaway.

Upon visiting the little town, they went exploring and began to enjoy their time away. With it their wishes and what ifs came into the conversation, which led them to a certain road to a certain woman named Madame Zoya.

With a small little chat with this woman Madame Zoya, she bestowed upon them the chance to relive any three weeks from their past and give them the chance to turn their “what ifs” into a reality, to change their future.

Now for Leslie, who is an unnoticed suburban housewife and mother, gets to decide if she wants to remain in her current life now or follow the boy who she loved in her college years. Would she choose a life of being unnoticed or unappreciated or would she follow the boy who notices everything about her?

Madison, who wanted to pursue modeling but fell short to help her high school boyfriend, who was badly hurt in an accident. Although later on, the ungrateful guy just left her. Would this second chance give her the courage to say “no” to her boyfriend or would she use the knowledge that she knows to take a different path to a better future?

Then there is Ellie, who had become a well-known, successful, novelist but her husband had other plans with the money she earned. With a quick divorce he had wiped Ellie out of all of her earnings. This act from him gave her little faith in the justice system as well as love. If she could go back, would she prevent it all from happening or would she use the system to keep what she has and possibly earn something more and worthwhile?

With each woman, you sit there, and you have to wonder. Do they stay with their present or do they follow their own dreams. When they choose, it’s for life, so they have to choose wisely otherwise they will be stuck and there won’t be a Madame Zoya to help them out of this a second time.

So, if you like mystery, thriller, suspense with a little romance than this is the book for you. However, there are three books to this series, so make sure you get the first summer house. Stay tuned to hear about the other books to come. Enjoy!!

If you have read it, tell me what you thought of the book and have you read the other ones?

Beast

Where to even begin as to how amazing this book is!!

I was feeling low and was scrolling through Goodreads, trying to find something to read. Not like I had shelves and shelves in different rooms full of books to read already but at that moment I wanted something different. So, with me being a plus size gal, I wanted something with a plus heroin and of course a muscular man, to boot, romance.

So, as I scrolled and scrolled, I instantly locked onto a very muscular chest with the word “Beast”, borderline between the man’s navel and his Apollos Belt….. Not that that was a distraction, I just love different remakes of Beauty and the Beast themed stories.

Big Fan.

Any who, I read what Goodreads had to say about the description of the book and it had me wanting more, well, convinced, on buying the book from Amazon. Within its few days of delivery, the agony was over. It had finally came and I was so excited to read it!

This book was indeed a retelling of my favorite story of “Beauty and the Best”, which I fell in love with the 1991 film version. Best believe I have found so many other retellings from books to movies of this classic tale. This book, by far, being my top five favorite of the retelling of it.

It starts with the main character, Ashleigh, who is a beautiful plus size woman, who, like most plus size goddesses, have an identity issue. She wants to “fit in” and be skinny but she goes about doing it the wrong way. When I say the wrong way, I mean the worst way possible. How? By not eating right and exercising to the point her own body gives up on her. Sorry, not going to give out all the details on her just yet.

Then there is Christopher, a LT. Christopher, a Marine! Who is nicknamed “Beast”. Which I thought, at first, was because of this man’s features and how he was described. 6’5″ three hundred and some pounds. Yep, big boy, the yummy kind. But the deformity was of his facial features, how he got them I will let you find out for yourself.

How the two met, is that they both work in a federal building, in the basement where the gym is located. Him security and her an analyst for the same company. Upon her accident, and him taking care of her the two were in separatable. He taught her how to take care of herself properly and she taught him that there was more to life then hiding in the shadows.

Now when I finally received this book, I made the mistake of reading it before bed. I started it and the next famous words are, ‘oh, just one more chapter’. This led to me. to. keep. turning. the. darn. pages! Before I knew it, it was five am!! I had to get up at six to be at work at seven!!! Yes, I did the responsible thing…….I called off to finish that book. Did I hold any regret to that….nope.

I love when I find a book that is simply a page turner. It’s very rare but I love finding them. When I do I keep them and read them over and over again. So, Pepper Pace, to whom I learned that she lives in the same state that I do, Thank you so much! I love, love, love this book. I hope to meet you one day.

To my readers on here, check it out, I swear you won’t regret it. If you love interracial/multicultural erotic romances than this book is for you!

If you have read it, tell me about how you experienced it and tell me why you loved it. Till then, happy reading!!

The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe

So, for this first post in my book selection, I want to choose the very first book I have ever read and actually enjoyed. The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis. Illustrated by Pauline Baynes.

When I was in the fourth grade, I had a speech problem. So, to “help” with that problem, my teacher wanted me to read out loud, to the book of her choice. Needless to say, I dreaded third period when it was a “free” period for everybody else, while I had to go to speech class. She made me read, “The Babysitters Club,” From the 90’s, by Ann M. Martin.

Now there is nothing wrong with the book series, but it just isn’t my sort of book to read. With a twist of fate, that changed my course to reading, that particular teacher fell ill to a rather bad flu. Causing her to not be at school for two weeks. I have to say I would never wish ill to anyone, but I am glad that she did.

The substitute teacher that had taken her place, was really good at her job and I felt that she was genuine in wanting to help me. She noticed straight away that I was not into the book at all. She then told me to follow her to the library. There she told me to pick out five books that intrigued me. After picking out the five she had me sprawl them out and pick one for me to read to her and the others for home, bus, my room and free time in class.

The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe was what I read to her, and I had read it fluently. Not one word had a stutter or a word mis-pronounced. It had taken a full week, and I was able to read out loud and not feel embarrassed for when we read out loud in class.

I had a connection to Lucy, with her sense of wonder and her being brave to go through the wardrobe and then brought along her brothers and sister. Getting to know Aslan the lion and Mr. Tumnus the Faun and of course the White Witch, all introduced me to a whole different world of what was different. Which to me, being different is a huge acceptance in my life. I love all things that are different or unique.

In this book there is betrayal between the siblings but it’s the process of forgiveness that which brings them back together. There is of course good versus evil and the many tests and challenges to overcome the evil to become good, not only for oneself but for, in this case, the kingdom. For that kingdom they all had to learn a lesson to stay true to themselves.

They all had a characteristic about themselves and like all of us, they are all different. For instance, Lucy, my favorite, she was known valiant or the faithful one. She never gave up on Edmund and she always kept wanting to go and save him.

Susan was known for her gentleness. C.S Lewis described it a bit in the beginning of her character. During this time, they were in the middle of a war, so you can understand her reasoning of not liking to fight but rather find a peaceful solution to any situation. Being the Eldest daughter also meant her taking a role as a mother figure for her younger and older siblings.

Peter was known for being the magnificent, to me was not my favorite character in the book but I still kept reading. He saved his sisters, several times, he did end up fighting in the war with the white witch and he did eventually own up to his mistakes for when he was wrong. That was probably why I didn’t like him cause in the beginning, he did no wrong and he was right about everything. Though I digress….

Then there is Edmund, known for the just. Reasoning so is because of his ordeal with the White Witch. He has now gone through the worst part to which it changes his perspective on situations. Making him a great asset to judgement and counseling when ruling beside his siblings. During the book he was nasty and cruel to his siblings but when he realized what was going on he slowly turned into the good guy.

Don’t let me tell you the story. You’re going to have to read it yourself. Maybe you’ll get a different outlook on the book. You would probably connect to the other characters like I connected to Lucy. And no cheating, on watching the movie, Books will always win when it comes knowing the inside scoop.

Let me know down below as to which character you connected or liked the best and why?
